Bridging the Language Gap

 
 
 
Dramatic changes in the overall make-up of the population in the metro area has profound implications for law enforcement, particularly because many of the documented and undocumented immigrants moving into New Orleans and its suburbs have if any, a very limited knowledge of the English language.  Each immigrant, whether documented or undocumented has arrived not only as part of a larger group but also as an individual with unique talents and faults. When language becomes a barrier for the police and the non-English speaker, problems arise for both parties.   read more
