Honduras gana Preolímpico Masculino CONCACAF 2008


Honduras ganó el título del Sub-23 del Preolímpico Femenino CONCACAF 2008 luego de una victoria de 1:0 ante los USA en tiempo extra en la final en el LP Field en Nashville, Tennessee el Domingo.
Luego de 90 minutos sin goles, Georgie Wilson Welcom anotó el tanto del triunfo para los catrachos al minute 13 del primer tiempo extra.
Con los dos finalistas y clasificados al Torneo de Fútbol Olímpico Beijing 2008, el título Sub-23 de CONCACAF es el segundo para Honduras con el primero en el 2000. Esto también es la segunda clasificación para Honduras a los Juegos del Verano en el 2008.
Mientras que, USA, quienes tienen un record de 13 presentaciones en los Torneo de Fútbol Masculino en los Juegos Olímpicos, solamente han terminando primero en un Preolímpico de CONCACAF (en 1992).
En el primer encuentro en el LP Field, Canadá se llevó el tercer lugar luego de vencer a Guatemala por marcador de 5:3 en penales.
Después de un empaté de 0:0 al terminar los 90 minutos, el partido se fue directamente a los penales. Canadá anotó en todos sus tiros de penal (Keegan Ayre, Kyle Hall, Tyler Hemming, Nikolas Ledgerwood, Isridro Sanchez), mientras que Guatemala tuvo goles de Marvin Avila, Jonny Brown y Jose Manuel Contreras, pero el tiro de Jairo Arreola fue atajado por el arquero de los maple leafs, David Monslave.


Honduras claimed the first-place Under-23 title at the 2008 CONCACAF Men's Olympic Qualification with a 1:0 win against the USA after extra time in the final at LP Field in Nashville, Tennessee on Sunday.
After a scoreless 90 minutes of play, Georgie Wilson Welcome scored the game-winner for the Catrachos 13 minutes into the first extra time period.
With both finalists already qualified as the Confederation's representatives to the Olympic Football Tournament Beijing 2008, the CONCACAF U-23 crown is the second for Honduras with their first one coming in 2000. This will also be Honduras second appearance at the Summer Games in 2008.
Meanwhile, the USA, who have progressed to 13 Men’s Football Tournament at the Olympic Games, have only finished first in one CONCACAF Pre-Olympic Qualifier (in 1992).
In an earlier encounter at LP Field, Canada took the third-place honors after defeating Guatemala 5:3 on penalty kicks.
After a 0:0 scoreline at the end of regulation, the encounter went straight to penalties. Canada scored in all five of their penalty kicks (Keegan Ayre, Kyle Hall, Tyler Hemming, Nikolas Ledgerwood, Isridro Sanchez), while Guatemala got goals from Marvin Avila, Jonny Brown and Jose Manuel Contreras, but Jairo Arreola’s shot was saved by the Maple Leafs’ goalkeeper David Monslave.


Saprissa se sobrepone a su derrota en la primera jornada para ganar el último lugar en la Semifinal de la Copa de Campeones



El Deportivo Saprissa de Costa Rica se sobrepuso a un déficit de 2:1 de la primera jornada la semana pasada en México al derrotar al Atlante CF 3:0 frente a una apasionada y animates casa llena en San José, para asegurar el último lugar en las Semifinales de la Copa de Campeones.
Atlante de México, quienes hicieron su primera aparición en la competencia premier de clubes de la Confederación en 14 años, estuvieron atrás en el marcador en el primer partido, pero se recuperaron con goles de Gabriel Pereyra y Christian Bermúdez para llevar ventaja a su partido en Costa Rica.
En la segunda jornada de ayer por la noche, los tres veces ganadores de la Copa de Campeones, Deportivo Saprissa sólo tomaron 18 minutos para restaurar la paridad en el marcador agregado, cuando Javier Muñoz desvió el balón a su propia portería después de un tiro de Alejandro Alpizar. El Monstruo Morado, dobló la ventaja con cinco minutos antes del medio tiempo cuando Armando Alonso terminó un largo pase de Ronald Gómez.
A mediados de la segunda mitad, vino otro auto gol, esta vez de Gerardo Castillo, que le dió al Saprissa la ventaja 3:0 y los puso en agregado 4:2 – suficiente para llevarse un lugar en los últimos cuatro. El equipo Costarricense ahora se enfrentará a los ganadores de la MLS Cup, Houston Dynamo en una de las Semifinales, mientras que su compañero de la MLS, DC United se enfrentará al Pachuca CF de México en el otro partido de Semifinal.

Saprissa overturn first-leg loss to win final Champions’ Cup semifinal spot

Costa Rica’s Deportivo Saprissa overcame a 2:1 deficit from the first-leg last week in Mexico, defeating Atlante CF 3:0 in front of a passionate and animated full house in San Jose, to secure the last remaining spot in the CONCACAF Champions’ Cup semifinals.
Atlante of Mexico, who were making their first appearance in the confederation’s premier club competition in 14 years, went behind early in the first game but recovered with goals from Gabriel Pereyra and Christian Bermúdez for a 2:1 lead going into the game in Costa Rica.
In last night’s second-leg the three-time Champions’ Cup winners Deportivo Saprissa took just 18 minutes to restore parity to the aggregate scoreline when Javier Munoz diverted the ball into his own net following a shot from Alejandro Alpizar. The Monstruo Morado doubled their lead five minutes before the break when Armando Alonso finished off a long pass from Ronald Gomez.
Midway through the second half another own goal, this time from Gerardo Castillo, gave Saprissa a 3:0 lead and put them up 4:2 on aggregate – enough for a place in the last four. The Costa Rican team will now face MLS Cup Champions Houston Dynamo in one semifinal while fellow MLS team D.C. United will square off against Pachuca CF of Mexico in the other match up.


Trinidad y Tobago sera sede del Campeonato Sub-17 Femenino CONCACAF 2008


Trinidad y Tobago sera sede del Campeonato Sub-17 Femenino CONCACAF del 17 al 26 de julio en el Dwight Yorke Stadium en Bacolet y Marvin Lee Stadium en Macoya.
El torneo inaugural de ocho selecciones tendra dos grupos de cuatro durante la primera ronda del 17 al 21 de julio. Las semifinales y finales se jugarán en el Marvin Lee Stadium el 24 y 26 de julio, respectivamente.
Más los anfitriones, el Campeonato Sub-17 CONCACAF tendra a Canadá, México y USA de la Zona Norte; Costa Rica, El Salvador de Centroamericana; Jamaica y Puerto Rico del Caribe.
El sorteo para los grupos de la primera ronda para el Campeonato Sub-17 Femenino CONCACAF 2008 sera anunciado pronto.
El Campeonato de CONCACAF, con las fechas y sedes por determinarse, clasificará a tres selecciones al inaugural Copa Mundial Sub-17 Femenina FIFA Nueva Zelandia 2008.

Trinidad & Tobago to host 2008 CONCACAF Women’s Under-17 Championship

Trinidad & Tobago will host the 2008 CONCACAF Women’s Under-17 Championship from 17-26 July at Bacolet’s Dwight Yorke Stadium and Marvin Lee Stadium in Macoya.
The inaugural eight-team tournament will have two groups of four during the first round from 17-21 July. The semifinals and finals will take place at the Marvin Lee Stadium on 24 and 26 July, respectively.
Along with the hosts, the CONCACAF Women’s U-17 Championship will have Canada, Mexico and USA from the North Zone; Costa Rica, El Salvador from Central America; Jamaica and Puerto Rico from the Caribbean.
The draw to determine the two first round groups for the 2008 CONCACAF Women’s U-17 Championship will be announced in due course.
The CONCACAF Championship will qualify three teams to the inaugural FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup New Zealand 2008.
