Musica Latina en vivo en New Orleans/Hispanic Live Music Scene in New Orleans

La música es uno de los aspectos más celebrados de la cultura de New Orleans y también una parte integral de la cultura Latinoamericana. Por eso, los músicos latinos tienen un papel importante en la música de New Orleans. Si te gusta la música latina en vivo, no dejes de seguir las presentaciones de nuestras bandas favoritas en el 2012:

Javier Olondo & Asheson. Esta banda es dirigida por Javier Olondo. Olondo es profesor de música en Tulane University y ha recibido honores de escuelas en Austria, Barcelona y la Havana. Su banda, Asheson, toca cada Domingo en Mojito's en Frenchmen Street. Lleguen alrededor de las 8:00 p.m. Para disfrutar de una cena y su set de música acústica, o lleguen más tarde para disfrutar de la banda completa y bailar hasta la medianoche. 

Grupo Sensacion. Grupo Sensacion empezó como un grupo de amigos y familiares de El Salvador, Cuba, Honduras y Guatemala. El grupo toca una variedad de géneros musicales. Esta banda es dirigida por el percusionista Jaime Perez y la pianista Yenima Rojas. Tocan semanalmente en Carretas, en Metairie; y en Chilitos, en Gretna.

Fredy Omar. Fredy Omar nació en Tegucigalpa, Honduras. A la edad de 22, Fredy ha había tocado en los principales teatros de Honduras y había ido en tour a El Salvador. Pero se empezó a frustrar con el  limitado mercado musical en Centro América. Cuando le salió la oportunidad para tocar en New Orleans, no lo pensó dos veces. En 1997, formó su propia banda y por 15 años ha disfrutado de mucho éxito. Toca una variedad de ritmos como latin jazz, merengue, salsa, mambo y bolero.

Julio y Cesar. Estos hermanos y residentes de New Orleans presentan musica latina acústica con guitarras clásicas. Son normalmente acompañados por un percusionista, y el hijo de César, Andrew Herrera, en el bajo. Tocan un show intenso con guitarra rítmica, melodías contrastantes y suaves voces.

Son originarios de Guatemala. Ellos cambian sus presentaciones de acuerdo a su público. Escúchalos en Tommy's Wine Bar los Sábados por la noche.

Rumba Buena. Rumba Buena es una banda que se especializa en ritmos caribeños como salsa, merengue y bachata. La banda es bastante grande: 11 personas más una persona que hace sonido. El líder de la banda es Johnny Marcia, un gran percusionista y timbalero. Su padre fue el líder de “Los Sagitarios” una banda de New Orleans que tocó por 35 años. Aunque la banda no toca frequentemente debido a su tamaño, Rumba Buena toca en todos los festivales más importantes de New Orleans, incluido el Jazz & Heritage Festival en el 2012.

Hispanic Live Music Scene in New Orleans

Music is of one the most celebrated aspects of the culture of New Orleans and is also an integral part of Latin American culture. Consequently, Latin American musicians have an important place in the music of New Orleans. If you like hispanic culture and enjoy live music, make 2012 the year to check out performances by our favorite bands:

Javier Olondo & Asheson. This band is led by guitarist Javier Olondo. A music professor at Tulane University, Olondo holds honors and degrees from distinguished schools in Austria, Barcelona and Havana. His band Asheson plays a weekly Sunday night gig at the popular bar Mojito's on Frenchmen Street. Come out around 8:00 p.m. to enjoy dinner and their acoustic latin jazz set, or come out later to dance to the full eight piece band until midnight.

Grupo Sensacion. Grupo Sensacion began as a large group of friends and relatives from El Salvador, Cuba, Honduras and Guatemala. The group performs a variety of Latin American musical genres. The band is directed by percussionist Jaime Perez and pianist Yenima Rojas. They play weekly gigs at Carretas, in Metairie; and Chilitos, in Gretna.

Fredy Omar. Fredy Omar was born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. By the age of twenty-two, Fredy had played all the major venues in Honduras and had toured El Salvador as a soloist. He began to feel frustrated by the limited music market in Central America. When the opportunity to perform at a festival in New Orleans arose, he jumped on it. In 1997, he formed Fredy Omar con su Banda. His band has enjoyed great success in the past 15 years of existance and are known for playing of the variety of rhythms  like latin jazz, merengue, salsa, cumbia, mambo and bolero.

Julio y Cesar. These brothers and New Orleans residents present acoustic Latin music on classical guitars and vocals. They are normally accompanied by a percussionist and their regular bass guitar player, César's son Andrew Herrera, and play an exciting show full of guitar rhythms, contrasting melodies, and soft voices. Julio and César Herrera, are originally from Guatemala. They tailor their performances to each audience, reflecting their highly tuned ability to read the crowd. Check them out at Tommy's Wine Bar on Saturday nights.

Rumba Buena. Rumba Buena is a band that specializes in Caribbean styles of music, especially salsa, merengue, and bachata. The band is quite large: 11 members, as well as a person dedicated to sound engineering. The leader of the band is Johnny Marcia, a great percussionist and “timbalero”. His father was the leader of a Latin band called Los Sagitarios, a New Orleans-area group that played together for about 35 years. The full band is not always able to perform in various venues, particularly restaurants, because of its large size. However, Rumba Buena is definitely an act to check out in all major New Orleans festivals, including the Jazz & Heritage Festival in 2012.
