Aquí no importa el día, tampoco si se empieza o se termina el año. A lo largo de los meses siempre habrá una excusa para festejar. El Mardi Gras, New Orleans Jazz Heritage Festival, Black Heritage Festival, Tennessee Williams Literary Festival, Greek Festival, Carnaval Latino y el Día de la Independencia, son sólo algunas de las fiestas que se resaltan con rojo en el calendario de la ciudad. Tal vez por ello a Nueva Orleans se le conoce como ¿laissez les bons temps rouler¿ (Deja que los buenos tiempos rueden), o ¿la ciudad en donde se olvidan los problemas?

Entre los más populares festivales de la ciudad, Mardi Gras puede ser el más importante de todos. Esta fiesta, basada en tradiciones europeas, fue evolucionando hasta convertirse en una celebración multicultural que se nutre de las raíces africanas y caribeñas que llegan a la región.

Sólo en el área metropolitana de Nueva Orleans, las calles se cubren de púrpura, verde y dorado y entre bailes y música el ambiente de fiesta se apodera de la ciudad para hacerle honor a aquella frase francesa ¿laissez les bons temps rouler¿, que en español sería ¿Deja que los buenos tiempos rueden¿...Y ruedan muy bien.

In New Orleans, it doesn’t matter whether they year is beginning or ending. Over the months, there is always an excuse to celebrate. Mardi Gras, New Orleans Jazz Heritage Festival, Black Heritage Festival, Tennessee Williams Literary Festival, Greek Festival, Latino Carnival and Independence Day are just some of the festivals that are highlighted in red on calendars throughout the city. Perhaps that is why New Orleans is known as the “Laissez les bons temps rouler” (let the good times roll) city or the city where all problems are forgotten.

Among the most popular festivals in the city, Mardi Gras is the most important of all. This feast, based on European traditions, evolved into a multicultural celebration that draws on African and Caribbean roots arriving in the region.

Only in the metro area of New Orleans, streets are covered in purple, green and gold and balls and party music atmosphere take over the city to honor the French phrase “Laissez les bons temps rouler”, which in English means, let the good times roll! And believe me, they do roll well!
