 A un año de su publicación, La mujer del coronel, la última novela del reconocido periodista y escritor Carlos Alberto Montaner, sigue posicionándose en listas de libros en español de más éxito de ventas. Desde junio de 2011, el libro está en la lista de best-sellers de Amazon dentro de la categoría de literatura latinoamericana. Al mismo tiempo, la novela se encuentra dentro del top diez de libros de ficción más vendidos en Estados Unidos por la casa editorial, Alfaguara.

La novela cuenta la historia de Nuria, una atractiva psicóloga cubana de cuarenta años, casada con el coronel Arturo Gómez, un tipo duro y heroico al que ama. Pero en un breve viaje a Italia, adonde ella acude a dictar una conferencia, su vida dará un vuelco radical tras conocer al profesor Martinelli, un erotómano consumado.
