Los Santos dan a conocer Escultura "Rebirth" de la semejanza de Steve Gleason

Los Santos de Nueva Orleans revelaron una estatua espectacular en el estadio Mercedes-Benz Superdome  en julio, titulada "Renacimiento". La estatua,  encargada por el propietario de los Santos / Presidente de la Junta Tom Benson, se dio a conocer en una ceremonia privada a la que asistieron Benson, los Santos de Nueva Orleans, Steve Gleason, los miembros de Team Gleason, el Honorable Mitch Landrieu y el escultor de la estatua, Brian Hanlon.

La estatua de bronce ofrece la imagen del ex Santo de Nueva Orleans Steve Gleason extendiéndose a bloquear con éxito una patada de despeje por el ex pateador  de los Atlanta Falcons, Michael Koenen (actualmente miembro de los Bucaneros de Tampa Bay) el 25 de septiembre del 2006, durante un juego de Monday Night Football. La estatua es un homenaje tanto a la reapertura del emblemático estadio un poco más de un año de la devastación causada por el huracán Katrina (2005) y los logros en su carrera y vida de Gleason.

"Esta estatua es un símbolo del renacimiento de nuestra ciudad, nuestra región, nuestro hogar, nuestro equipo", dijo Benson. "Esta estatua nos recuerda una noche preciada, y una de las obras más impresionantes de la orgullosa historia de esta franquicia. Estará aquí para todo el mundo para que la mirara entrando, saliendo o pasando por Mercedes-Benz Superdome para ver y reavivar los sentimientos que compartimos esa noche. Esta estatua será un homenaje eterno al espíritu del legado de "Renacimiento" y lo que representa y del duradero impacto de Steve en las vidas que ha ayudado  e inspirado.”

Saints Unveil “Rebirth” Sculpture of Likeness of Steve Gleason

The New Orleans Saints unveiled a spectacular tandem statue at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in July entitled “Rebirth.” The statue, commissioned by Saints’ Owner/Chairman of the Board Tom Benson, was unveiled in a private ceremony that was attended by Benson, the New Orleans Saints, Steve Gleason, members of Team Gleason, The Honorable Mitch Landrieu and the sculptor of the statue, Brian Hanlon.

The larger-than-life bronze statue features the likeness of former New Orleans Saints safety Steve Gleason stretching out to successfully block a punt by former Atlanta Falcons punter Michael Koenen (currently a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers) on September 25, 2006 during a Monday Night Football game. The statue is a tribute to both the reopening of the iconic domed stadium just over one year removed from the devastation inflicted by Hurricane Katrina (2005) and the career and lifetime accomplishments of Gleason.

“This statue is symbolic of the Rebirth of our city, our region, our home, our team,” said Benson. “This statue reminds us of a cherished night and one of the most amazing plays in the proud history of this franchise. It will be here for everyone to view coming into, out of or past the Mercedes-Benz Superdome to see and rekindle the feelings we shared that evening. This statue will be an everlasting tribute to the spirit of the ‘Rebirth’ legacy and what it stands for and of Steve’s lasting impact on the lives he has helped touch and inspire.”
